Sometimes, it takes a few different majors to find what you want to do in life. I have an art degree, but I worked in tech support to help pay for my education. It turns out I really love IT, and I worked my way up through network and systems administration to my current position as an IT Manager. Management has taught me that there are more positions available than qualified candidates. When I was asked to join Makers Mission, I saw it as an opportunity to share my love for technology and design with the upcoming generations. I am a hands-on learner, and one of the hurdles I had to overcome was gaining access to equipment. After I started working on the network and server hardware I would be using, I could determine if this was something I wanted to do. We aim to remove this barrier to entry for younger students.
